The Art of Dining dream team, Chef Ellen Parr and designer Alice Hodge, have created yet another unique and delicious pop-up…The 80’s Office Party! Yes, I’m talking enormous shoulder pads, scrunchies, and as much houndstooth print as you can handle! As a lover of immersive dining experiences (see Queen of the Night in NYC), having the whole evening centred around an eighties themed meal including ‘Coffee’, ‘Elevenses’ and a ‘Packed Lunch’ was pure brilliance…
The Jerusalem artichoke ravioli with mushroom broth was definitely the highlight, with ravioli served in mugs and broth poured from cafetieres…even my shroom-loathing friend was a convert! I loved all the novel touches throughout the evening – packed lunch arriving in a brown paper bag and retro office activities (including drawing on OHP films) led by the ‘Margaret Thatcher of condiments’, Amanda Bellingham. As the big boss of The Pickle Co. (of which you were an employee), she was sarcastically witty and absolutely hilarious at times…inappropriately serenading her male subordinates whilst wheeling around on an office chair!
Along with a rum-based welcome cocktail complete with tinsel straws and cocktail umbrellas, we ordered the 5 wine pairings that were a steal at £20! The whole evening was so entertaining, the only thing that could have made it better was if it continued on beyond 11pm with some dancing! With only 3 dates left that haven’t sold out (£55) – April 13th, 14th and 15th, I definitely recommend booking your tickets now and if you can’t make these, watch out for the next pop-up!
